Network Silencer

The Computer Audio Design (CAD) Network Silencer is a radical new device designed to reduce unwanted high frequency noise on Ethernet Networks connected to home audio and video equipment.
The Network Silencer employs proprietary CAD noise reduction technology developed over the last decade in the award-winning CAD Ground Controls, USB II-R Cable, Ethernet Control and USB Control.
CAD recommends placing the Network Silencer in any unused Ethernet (RJ45) socket in your home network,
for example, an available socket in a switch or router.
(Please see the notes below about RJ45 socket types)
Simply plug the supplied Network Silencer Cable into the RJ45 socket of the Network Silencer and then insert the other end of the cable directly into the open RJ45 on the network component.
The Network Silencer Cable is designed to leave space for connections to sit comfortably in adjacent sockets.
When the Network Silencer is plugged into unused RJ45 Ethernet ports in a network component, the proprietary circuitry reduces high frequency noise in the Ethernet Transceiver/PHY, the differential Ethernet signals and the Signal Ground of the device.
The Network Silencer is designed to work with RJ45 Sockets that have metal ground connections to attach to the silver-plated Plug Shell of the Network Silencer Cable.
Typically, home routers often tend to have unshielded plastic sockets, with no metal tabs on the side. Conversely, many switches and audio components have metal (conductive) sockets, or at least metal tabs on the sides of the socket. (See photos below)
While the Network Silencer will function without a Ground Connection, the performance is improved if there is a Ground Connection.

The Network Silencer Cable is a core component of the Network Silencer and is crucial to get the best performance from the device.
The hand-made cable is designed to optimise the connection between the Network Silencer, the connected device’s Signal Ground and four Ethernet differential signals.
The construction employs custom, high purity, thick silver-plated shields which have been treated to minimize oxidation. This silver-plated shield provides a low impedance signal ground connection over a broad frequency range between the component and the Network Silencer. The materials and design of the Network Silencer Cable optimises the transfer of high frequency noise into the Network Silencer circuitry, which in turn maximises the attenuation of High Frequency Noise being produced by the Ethernet circuitry.
Third party cables are extremely unlikely to work as well as the Network Silencer Cable.
The non-conductive acrylic case of the Silencer is CNC machined, designed to offer a compact enclosure with excellent vibration damping properties.
Each Network Silencer and Cable is assembled and finished by hand and individually tested in the UK.
The Network Silencer will be effective in devices of all budgets, complementing the improvements offered by “audiophile” switches and components.
The Network Silencer can be used in conjunction with other CAD products such as the Ethernet Control, USB Control, USB II-R Cable and Ground Controls to offer further noise reduction.
There is no need to power down your audio system when you insert or remove the Network Silencer.
The Network Silencer can also be used in audio/video components, including music servers/streamers, TVs and projectors – wherever there is an unused RJ45 Ethernet socket available.
Several manufacturers of analogue components (e.g. amplifiers, phono pre-amplifiers) employ Ethernet connections for service, control or configuration.
The CAD Network Silencer may also be inserted into these available RJ45 (Ethernet) sockets.
However, please check the Manufacturer’s manual to ensure that each RJ45 sockets is Ethernet compatible.
Only use the Network Silencer in RJ45 Ethernet ports. In some components, RJ45 connectors are used for something other than Ethernet. The Network Silencer could cause damage if used in these sockets – so verify that the RJ45 connection is intended for Ethernet before using the Network Silencer.
